In the early 1990's, MCT initiated its "rails to trails" program with the goal of preserving urban rail corridors for future light rail possibilities and interim trail use. Today, that program has converted over 85 miles of rail corridors into user-friendly bikeways and walking trails. MCT is the only public transit system in the country that has created such an integrated transportation system, which links its own bikeways with its existing transit system. MCT has secured in excess of $15 million in federal and state grants to implement an ongoing construction and development program designed to create and support alternative modes of transportation. To view the graphics version of the MCT Trails website, click here
