GRANITE CITY, IL., AUGUST 1, 2019 . . . Offering competitive wages, full benefits and a desirable work environment close to home, Agency for Community Transit (ACT), the operator for Madison County Transit (MCT) is seeking positive, energetic professionals to fill a variety of available positions. Located in Pontoon Beach, Illinois, just off I-270 and IL-111, ACT is looking for drivers, bus cleaners, fuelers, and mechanics to operate this vital public service.

“Drivers are currently our most critical need,” said ACT Executive Director Jerry Kane. “We’re looking for individuals who like people and like driving to fill these positions. We’ll even provide the training.” Drivers start at $16.00 an hour and can participate in a 401(k) matching program. Health insurance is offered after 90 days of employment. After 650 work hours, driver wages increase to $18.37 an hour. “This is one of those jobs that I enjoy coming to every morning,” said ACT driver Calvin Payne, whose been with the agency for 14 years. Longtime ACT driver Zereeta Kinney-Lee agrees: “I’ve worked here for 22 years, and there are three things I love about my job - I get to drive big buses, meet new people every day, and make great money.”

Applicants must be positive, reliable individuals with solid work experience and a clean driving record. Successful applicants must also pass a US Dept. of Transportation physical and drug test. With ACT’s assistance, they will obtain an IL CDL B License with air brakes and passenger endorsements. “I really like working here because our passengers appreciate our service and wouldn’t be able to enjoy their independence without it,” said ACT Paratransit driver Dana Clemons.

Hiring additional bus cleaners is also one of ACT’s top priorities. Cleaners start at $14.50 an hour and are offered health insurance after 30 days of employment. Cleaners also have the option of participating in ACT’s 403(b) retirement plan and cafeteria plan.

Applicants for any of these positions must apply in person for a position at ACT, by visiting ACT’s main office located at 1 Transit Way, just off Chain of Rocks Road in Pontoon Beach, Illinois.
