MCT IMPROVES SERVICE IN THE RIVERBEND, EFFECTIVE MAY 5, 2013
#1X Riverbend Express Consolidated and #6 Roxana –South Roxana Shuttle Extended
GRANITE CITY, ILL., APRIL 26, 2013. . . As part of its regular May Service Change, effective May 5, 2013, Madison County Transit (MCT) will
make a series of route changes to improve Express bus service from the Riverbend area and increase access to employment opportunities at the Gateway Commerce Center.
In February, MCT held five “open house”-style public meetings to solicit comments regarding proposed changes to the #1X Riverbend Express and #12X Bethalto
Express as well as the proposed extension of the #6 Roxana – South Roxana Shuttle. In response to comments at the meetings and those received via e-mail and
phone, MCT made a number of adjustments to the proposal. The MCT Board of Trustees approved the revised proposal at its meeting on February 28, 2013. A full
summary of all changes is listed by route below:
#1X Riverbend Express / #12X Bethalto Express Consolidation
MCT will consolidate the #12X and #1X into one route, the #1X Riverbend Express, with Bethalto becoming a new branch from which direct trips will feed into
Eastgate Plaza as a common timepoint. The change will also accomplish the following:
- Preserve Express service from Bethalto and Airline Drive to Downtown St. Louis via IL-3.
- Eliminate Express service on Wood River Avenue and on IL-111.
- Bethalto: Maintain current number of morning trips (2) and reduce afternoon trips from 3 to 2.
- Eastgate Plaza: Add 2 morning trips (for a total of 9), add 3 afternoon trips (for a total of 11).
- Wood River Station: Maintain current number of morning trips (2), reduce afternoon trips from 3 to 2.
- Wood River Ave. & IL-111 in Roxana: Feeder service provided on the #1 and #6 to Wood River Station.
#6 Roxana – South Roxana Shuttle
MCT will extend hourly #6 service on weekdays and Saturdays to and from the Gateway Commerce Center (GCC) on IL-111 and the Liberty & Chain of Rocks Transfer Point.
The new extension will provide direct bus service from Wood River, Roxana and South Roxana to the GCC, as well as quicker access from Alton, Bethalto, East Alton and Godfrey.
By connecting the #6 to the Liberty & Chain of Rocks Transfer Point, new transfer opportunities are created from the #6 to the #4 Madison – Edwardsville and the #5 Tri-City Regional.
#1 Riverbend
MCT will adjust the following #1 trips to provide timed feeder service to #1X stops:
- Add #1 southbound trip to Eastgate at 6:01 p.m.
- Add #1 northbound trip into Hartford at 6:09 p.m.
- Remove #1 southbound trip from Hartford at 6:19 p.m.
- Remove #1 northbound trip from Eastgate at 6:31 p.m.
#5 Tri-City Regional
Due to the extension of the #6 on Saturdays from Liberty & Chain of Rocks to the Gateway Commerce Center, (2) duplicate Saturday trips will be eliminated on the #5. The first
trip on the #5 will also be adjusted five minutes earlier for better connectivity at the Emerson Park MetroLink Station.
#9 Washington Shuttle
To increase access to services around the lunch hour, MCT will extend (3) #9 trips to Senior Services Plus at 11:09 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 1:41 p.m.
For specific route and schedule details, new timetables dated “May 5, 2013” are posted online at www.mct.org and will be available at MCT Stations, on MCT buses and at locations
throughout Madison County. For questions or details about MCT services, call (618) 797-INFO (4636) or e-mail info@mct.org.
